Our Story

Golden Valley Meat and Game is a small family business, serving the public, retail, and catering industry for over 30 years. We supply the highest quality meat, poultry, and game locally sourced wherever possible and fully traceable. Over the years, we have earned a solid reputation for quality meat products and excellent customer service. As we are a small family business, our customers can enjoy the personal touch that our business offers.

Our family business is set on the grounds of our family home with a fully equipped butcher's facility and a team of 8 staff. The village of Grosmont, in the north of Monmouthshire, is in an area of outstanding natural beauty, a wonderful place to live and work. 

Adrian began his butchery career working as a Saturday boy on the front counter of a local butcher's shop. He attended Colchester Avenue College in Cardiff where he received his Institute of Meat membership and qualifications. At the age of 18 he was working as a senior butcher in a Hereford supermarket and by the age of 19 had started his own butchery business.

On the 25th of February 2014, Adrian was awarded the prestigious award of Accredited Master Butcher by the Meat Training Council at their annual dinner held in the historic Butchers Hall in Smithfield, London. This impressive award makes him one of only 14 in the UK and the only one in Wales and the Three Counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Gloucestershire. This is the highest accolade a butcher can achieve and is something that we are very proud of. This is very different from the term Master Butcher, which is simply a self-accreditation.

In 2017, GVMG won 1st prize Fresh Welsh Christmas Meat Hamper suitable for a Christmas Celebration and 2nd Prize for a Fresh Welsh Breakfast Meat Hamper suitable for a bumper breakfast. Overall, GVMG won Champion of Welsh Meat Hampers with strong competition from the whole of Wales including Denbighshire, Flintshire, Powys, Gwynedd & Abertawe but Golden Valley Meat and Game brought it home to Monmouthshire.

In 2019, we did it again! The meat hamper competitions were judged by Mr. Rhys Llewelyn, Market Development Manager from Meat Promotion Wales who awarded GVMG, 

1st for a Welsh Showcase of Meat Hamper

1st for a Welsh Christmas Dinner Hamper

2nd for a Fresh Welsh Breakfast Hamper

In 2021, with the return of the Royal Welsh Winter Fair after the pandemic, we won every meat hamper competition

1st for a Fresh Welsh Breakfast Hamper

1st Charcuterie Hamper

We won overall Supreme Champion and Reserve Champion of all meat hampers in Wales against strong competition from Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Port Talbot, Powys & Herefordshire. However, Golden Valley Meat & Game brought this prestigious award home to Monmouthshire.

In 2023, we entered 4 competitions and won the overall Supreme Champion of meat hampers in Wales.
